Adventurer, Legacy Forger, and Limitless Soul
I had the honor to sit down with an amazing adventurer today. We spoke about life, death, and the adventure between, among so many things.
Jesse opened my eyes to a new facet of personal growth, where he had been raised to find his own truth in the world. To have parents who wanted him to experience life as opposed to telling him how to live it. Gain respect and responsibility by proving that you’re worthy of that responsibility. It really resonated with me.
He also spoke about his encounter with the real world and how it contrasted with what he had learned intellectually. For those who have been following me for a while, you’ll know that I have a thorn in my side when it comes to “overweight certified fitness coaches” – people who have read a book and now feel like they’re in a position to teach this to others. It simply does not work in many situations, because without the actual experience of a situation, you’ll be proclaiming half-truths.
Jesse is real in this sense, where he would much rather go about life and find out what’s useful, not just good to know.

Parenting
As a parent, I often think about what I can do to be the best guide through my children’s life. I don’t want to tell them how life is. Just like Jesse’s parents, I want them to learn for themselves. He mentioned that most people today, from the age of around 5 to 18, have no idea who they are, simply because they are thrown into an environment where another human is the all-knowing authority. Our teachers and custodians will lay down the law as to what we’re supposed to do and think. If we want to go to the bathroom, we have to ask permission. If we’re bad, we have to face the consequences of this authority, if we feel inadequate, we look to the “authority” for answers and guidance.
This is how our species have done things for eons, yet few people actually raise a critical thought to how massively fucked up that is…
Today, my daughter came home with a shiner. A bonified black eye, which was the result of a fist making contact with her face. No shit! She’s 5 years old! My partner didn’t hear this from kindergarten. She SAW it on my daughter’s face. No “authority” had told her what happened that day, like what had led up to it, how the parties were affected, and how it got resolved. No no, but according to our 5-year-old daughter, an adult “authority” had made the attacking party apologize for sucker-punching her.
See, this is my issue with the whole system. If my daughter had not relayed the story, no one would be the wiser. We would just wonder why the heck she looked like Rocky Balboa after a boxing match…
When Jesse was unknowingly attacked from behind by a coward, his entire paradigm shifted. His first thoughts were “He’s definitely getting disqualified” because Jesse had a 2nd-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. But this had never happened during practice, so his mind was scrambling for answers. Eventually, he learned that everything he had learned was useless in the real world, so he began his journey to find out what was actually useful.
Psychedelics
Although Jesse came to the game “late” as he put it, he realized that he didn’t have a lot of transformational insights and epiphanies like many will experience during these events. He had already gone through his life in a way that prepared him for what he was delving into. He had faced fears and gotten to know himself before being presented with the tool that is plant medicine.
This confirmed a lot for me, as I have gone through my “barriers” only in recent years, whereas he had spent his entire life doing so. The more “barriers” I conquered, the more I learned about things outside of myself with the medicine. If I had Jesse’s upbringing, I might have seen my first initial interactions with this medicine very differently. I consider myself very fortunate to have had conversations like this with people who’ve had a different life experience than me.
I highly recommend you watch the conversation, as we delve into everything from the Universe, to the time before life, birth, death, and everything in between.
